Job Overview

The Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) is pleased to announce a search for a 2027 – 2028 Postdoctoral Fellow. Scholars who have received their PhD after June 2022 in WGSS or related fields are invited to apply. The fellowship provides emergent interdisciplinary scholars with time to further their work in a nurturing program and opportunities to develop public-facing programming related to their research.

We are open to candidates in any area of feminist studies but are especially interested in scholars whose work addresses health and/or environmental justice; or immigration, citizenship, and surveillance. The Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate with the Mary Ellen Heintz Professor, Dr. Anima Adjepong, to develop a project that brings together their expertise in one of the above areas. About 10% of the Fellow’s time will be spent on the collaborative project.

We estimate that about half of the Fellow’s time may be spent on projects of their own design. In addition to conducting and publishing independent and collaborative research, the Fellow will be expected to teach two courses per academic year, determined according to candidate’s interests and department needs. Additional responsibilities include serving on the department’s Programming Committee, helping to develop and coordinate public engagement and community outreach events, participating in WGSS collegial life including by attending brown bags, colloquia, and other departmental events, and giving one public presentation on their research.

This is a one-year appointment with an annual salary of $60,000. There is a possibility that the postdoc could be renewed for a second year depending on satisfactory performance and funding availability. The position also includes a $3,000 annual research budget and full health benefits. The Fellow will be provided with an office in the department and is expected to spend the academic year (August – May) in residence at UC.
