The research team at the Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking motivated candidates to join a team focused on clinical and translational pain research using multidisciplinary approaches.

The applicant will be working in a collaborative environment in a strong research environment on campus and will have opportunities to work on wide-spectrum basic and translational, and clinical pain and neuroimaging research projects using biomedical (e.g., fluorescence imaging, molecular biology, cell culture, immunohistochemical assays), clinical outcome measures, quantitative sensory testing, as well as neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, EEG) in human subjects.

Essential Functions

  • Independently conduct research experiments at basic and clinical research settings in a particular pain, neuroscience, and clinical research field within the predetermined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in the field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Highly motivated candidate with a track record of research productivity and publication in the areas of pain and neuroscience.
  • PhD, MD, or equivalent terminal degree, with demonstrated research experience relevant to pain, neuroscience, or related areas.
