Full-time tenure-track faculty appointment responsible for developing and implementing print & digital workflows including, but not limited to, print and born-digital archives, the digitization of existing hard copy materials, and the preservation of digital and print items. Manages and maintains the ARB Law Library website, discovery of print and digital content, and maintenance and development of print and digital collections and exhibitions.


Receives general direction from and reports to the Collections and Access Librarian.

Essential Functions

  • Provides expertise on workflows, tools, and best practices to support the management of print and born-digital content, including, but not limited to pictures, letters, documents, emails, web content, social media.
  • Strategize, develop, and communicate processes for accessioning, ingesting, processing, describing, and preserving print and born-digital materials.
  • Oversee the processing, cataloging, and preservation of in-house materials, including manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials, and the creation of accompanying metadata; coordinates with outside vendors for other formats as needed.
  • Serves on Libraries or University-wide teams, as needed, to create workflow as well as discovery and access solutions to print and digital archive solutions.
  • Organizes and creates online access to born-digital and print materials collected for collections or records management.
  • Maintains web applications on the law library website and collaborates in the support of other UC Libraries websites, using standards-compliant markup, web technologies, and best practices in accordance with UC website policies and hardware/software standards and practices.
  • Provides reference service for archival materials (print and digital) as needed.
  • Provides oral and written reports as directed.
  • Supervise student assistants as needed.
  • Promotes the collection through blog posts, social media, as well as other platforms as needed.
  • Participate in appropriate, meetings, committees and organizations related to the duties and responsibilities of the department, and in support of UC Law Library programs and organizations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters degree in library science or information science from an ALA-accredited institution with a demonstrated understanding of archives and special collections, or a graduate degree in a related field.
  • Familiarity with archival and special collections standards and best practices.
  • Experience working with print and digital archival collections.
  • General knowledge of standards-based metadata schema, including the Extended Dublin Core metadata schema.
  • General knowledge in the development and maintenance of web sites. General knowledge of web technologies such as html, xml, css and javascript. Knowledge and ability to produce and optimize images for the web, including experience with image editing software.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated record of ongoing professional development and contribution, and ability to meet UC Libraries reappointment, promotion and tenure requirements.
  • Ability to think analytically, to use effective verbal and written communication, including the use of computer technology, and to remember details and concentrate on tasks.
  • Physical requirements include attending work-related meetings, directing others, and the ability to lift materials weighing up to 25 pounds with or without accommodation.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience processing print and/or digital archival collections.
  • Working knowledge of or experience with institutional repository or digital collection platforms, such as CONTENTdm, Islandora: DSpace, or others.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and developing functional specifications for integrating digital repositories with a CMS-based front-end.
  • Supervisory experience in the hiring, training, and appraisal of the work of student employees

Salary Information: $63,000 - $68,0000 annually dependent on candidate experience.
